Beware the wave

click Scroobl for full size

So while Microsoft plays catchup by attempting to release a decent search engine, Google takes online life into the next frontier with Wave. The timing of the launch of wave was all too convenient to be a coincidence but has probably been effective in washing out a lot of Bing's launch messaging. Why would anyone bother to go backwards with Bing when they can just keep going forward with Google?

Shameless Self Promotion

In South Africa, the blog awards season kicks off with the SA Blog Awards. And possibly the biggest side effect of the SA blog awards is the ridiculous amount of 'vote for me' posts, tweats and shouts!

April Fool!

After a discussion with @davidcushman, I decided to slightly modify today's Scroobl to pay homage to one of the greatest April fools/PR stunts ever!

Slide share sent a message to its member base (I have not received it yet and my ego needs stroking!) saying something about 'Your slide has been added to the Best of Slideshare. Of course stroking a blogger's ego creates major buzz and true as bob, #bestofslideshare for a while was number 1 on Twitscoop, bigger than the G20 protest violence!!! Seems wrong somehow! http://www.twitscoop.com/scoops/search?q=bestofslideshare

Big heads

In South Africa, the blog awards season kicks off with the SA Blog Awards. It tends to swell your head when nominated so be careful when running through doorways!

It's blog awards time again

In South Africa, the blog awards season kicks off with the SA Blog Awards. It's a great time for backstabbing, bitching, trolling and all other sorts of anti-social-networking type behaviour. Oh yeah, and they give out awards for some pretty cool blogs!

The architecture of a viral email competition

I recently launched a viral email campaign where I got current users to encourage friends to download a trial version of Play With Pictures via an easy email viral recommendation system.

The campaign has been a good success so far with a 2.6:1 ration meaning that on for every one person in the database, 2.6 new people on average got a Play With Pictures recommendation.

How to sell a newspaper

The media is hopelessly obsessed with social media at the moment. It is all over the front pages and is obviously bringing in lots of readers or they wouldn't bother. Don't they have something better to talk about? And if they don't could they actually get someone in that knows what they are talking about? One newspaper referred to Google Street View as 'Spyware' the other day. What a bunch of idiots!

Facebook changes... again

Here we go again: Facebook changes, again! People start whinng, again! People get used to it and stop whining. Facebook changes yet again! Get over it people, you don't pay for Facebook and they will need to keep innovating to stay ahead of the pack or they will end up a white elephant like Myspace.
I dedicate this one to my wonderful wife who is one of the constant whiners!
